Circular

1 The Maritime Safety Committee, at its eighty-seventh session (12 to 21 May 2010), agreed that the intention of the Committee, when it adopted resolution MSC.216(82) to amend SOLAS regulation II-1/41 concerning the provision of supplementary lighting in passenger ships cabins, was that the new regulation II-1/41.6 shall only apply to passenger ships constructed on or after 1 July 2010.

2 Consequently, the Committee approved the draft text of amendment to SOLAS regulation II-1/41.6 with a view to adoption at its 88th session to be held from 24 November to 3 December 2010, as set out in the annex, to clearly reflect the above intention of the Committee in the respective regulation of SOLAS.

3 Member Governments are requested to apply the amendments to SOLAS regulation II-1/41 adopted by resolution MSC.216(82), in accordance with the intentions of the Committee as reflected above.
