The Maritime Safety Committee

  1 The Committee, at its sixty-eighth session (28 May to 6 June 1997), recognizing that there was a need to amend the relevant regulations of chapter II-2 of the 1974 SOLAS Convention to enhance the fire safety of deep-fat cooking equipment installed in ships' galley area, agreed that the draft amendments to SOLAS regulation II-2/18, as set out in the annex, should be included in future amendments to chapter II-2 of SOLAS 74.

  2 Member Governments are invited, pending adoption and entry into force of the aforementioned proposed amendments to the 1974 SOLAS Convention, to apply them to new installations of deep-fat cooking equipment.
